GommoG is a name used by Australian electronic artist Gordon Monro for artistic activities. To Gordon Monro's main page.

Buy a T-shirt!

If anyone should actually want a GommoG T-shirt: you can buy one here (from e-t-shirts.com, an Australian company).

I don't make any money from this, but I wanted one of these for myself, and it turns out that the e-t-shirts.com website normally makes the designs openly available.

Why a name?

When I started to make animations, I needed a short name to put on the movies. I am on the fringe of two worlds in which artists seem to need "artist names": one is movies ("a GommoG production") and the other is live electronic music.

Why GommoG?

  •   It is short.

  •   It is nicely symmetric.

  •   It is related to my real name (derived from the first two letters of "Gordon" and the first two letters of "Monro").

  •   It doesn't seem to mean anything in any language.

  •   People often misspell the "Monro" part of my name, and so have trouble finding me.

  •   The domain name www.gommog.com was available.

And all the other names I could think of were already in use. The only problem with "GommoG" is that it sounds a bit more aggressive and death-metal-ish than my art work generally is.

Other Gommogs

When I started using the name there weren't any others, as far as I could find out. Now I have come across two, one on Russian-language websites and one in England. I don't have any connection with either of them. In case of confusion, I live in Australia, and here is some biographical information.
