is a name used by Australian electronic artist Gordon Monro for
artistic activities. To Gordon Monro's main
page.
Why a name?
When I started to make animations, I needed
a short name to put on the movies. Also, there are at least five different ways of spelling my surname, and people were having trouble finding me on the Web.
Why GommoG?
-
It is short.
-
It is nicely symmetric.
-
It is related to my real name (derived from the first
two letters of "Gordon" and the first two letters of "Monro").
-
It doesn't seem to mean anything in any language.
-
People often misspell the "Monro" part of
my name, and so have trouble finding me.
-
The domain name www.gommog.com was available.
And all the other names I could think of were already in use. The only
problem with "GommoG" is that it sounds a bit more aggressive
and death-metal-ish than my art work generally is.
Other Gommogs
When I started using the name there weren't any others, as far as I could
find out. Now I have come across two, one on Russian-language websites
and one in England. I don't have any connection with either of them. In
case of confusion, I live in Australia, and here is some biographical
information.
